Volcano Flowers by Sheri Roloff

Art from the archives: Volcano Flowers

Since I’m not ready to share the thing I’m currently working on, I thought I’d share this blast from the past. Thanks to some recent cleaning efforts, I stumbled across this illustration I did about 5 years ago and thought to myself, “Huh, I actually like this thing I spent a bunch of time on and then stashed in a drawer.”

So, in short, cleaning and organizing stuff sucks (at least to me!), but finding things you like is nice. I hope you find some things you like today – without even having to clean anything. 🙂

Some assembly required – illustration building

Uncategorized

I’m taking a new approach to a commissioned illustration project. I’m drawing each piece separately and then assembling it in Photoshop. Why? Well, I’ve done some assembly before (on an as-needed, less-planned basis) and it’s worked well. And even though it might be a little more work up front, this way I’ll have more control over editing: sizing, placement, future tweaks, etc. And I’d have the flexibility to easily use different parts of the illustration in future images.

Right now it looks pretty random, but soon it will be one cohesive image. Final imagery coming soon!

Shiny new ideas for a shiny new year

Uncategorized

Hi! I know… it’s been a while. I’ve been a bit distracted from regular posting due to a chaotic December followed by a an influx of shiny new project ideas.

Soon, I hope to share artwork from a new graphic novel project and a freelance logo project I’m working on. Right now I’m knee-deep in concepts that simply aren’t ready show yet. So instead, I’m getting back on the blog wagon with a blast from the past. This is a piece I did 6-ish years ago. I guess you could call it a surreal, abstract, mixed-media piece. I used markers, pens and pencil.

As a result of my shiny new idea syndrome, my NaNoWriMo novel will be marinating for a while – which I think is ok. I’m hoping it’ll give me a fresh perspective when I return to it. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to sharing my new projects as they come to fruition.

Happy belated 2016!  I hope your creative projects – new and old – are evolving in exciting new ways.

Impostor Squirrel Returns… in color!

Uncategorized

Reintroducing…. Impostor Squirrel! You may recall Impostor Squirrel from his black & white debuts here and here.

In other news, I’ve learned that both impostor and imposter are acceptable spellings. However, the consensus (based solely on a quick Google search) seems to be that impostor is more widely used and thus more preferable. Words with two accepted spellings make me feel weird… like I’m not 100% correct either way. Feel free to voice your preferred spelling in the comments below. 🙂

Sneak Peek: In-Progress Painting

Art

Here’s a sneak peek of a painting I’m working on. As you can see, I am under the watchful eye of a sinister critic ready to pounce and correct me at any moment.

I could use a name for this piece. Suggestions are welcome!
