Hipster Cat & Hibiscus Flowers

Meet Clora. She likes to stop and smell the flowers, but her first love is meteorology. On the weekends she sketches clouds and keeps tabs on the changing weather with her pocket barometer. It’s quite hipstery, and I’m pretty sure she’s friends with this guy.

New Digital Art Made in Procreate

Happy Friday! This week I’ve been using the app Procreate on my iPad Pro to draw two of my favorite things – cats and foxes.

Procreate is a pretty intuitive app and its capabilities blow Adobe Sketch out of the water. Sketch does have a great pencil that I prefer, but there are way more brushes in Procreate, along with more editing and effect capabilities. Aside from the pencil, I do miss Sketch’s integration with Creative Cloud. But otherwise, Procreate wins my heart!

Well… I fell off the Inktober bandwagon. Inking every day wasn’t the problem; it was the idea of sharing it every day. Sometimes the things I draw are best left inside a closed sketchbook! Once I realized that the thought of having to post something every day was not appealing to me, I remembered working on something every day was (like NaNoWriMo!). So I kept working on my main projects instead, which didn’t always involve inking or sharing.

Here’s one thing I finished up. It’s a sample page from Tom & Gibson: a quirky story about a pet and master power struggle. Meet Tom the walrus person and Gibson the purple cat.

NaNoWriMo is just around the corner!

This year I’m taking the plunge and participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Truth be told, I’ve never technically tried writing an entire novel before, let alone writing one in 30 days. So I feel a lot like this astronaut cat…floating in the abyss with a vague look of concern.

But I’m also really excited! I’ve been prepping my characters, plot and setting, and my outline is nearly complete. (I have a couple loose ends to tie up before November 1, but I’m close!) And for some crazy reason, I think I can do this.

Anyway, you likely won’t hear from me this November since I’ll be doing my darnedest to crank out 50,000 words. But hopefully a victory post will mark the end of this journey.

Good luck to all the other NaNoWriMo-ers out there!
